If you developed WordPress website on a development server or looking to change your host for any reason, then read this post and learn how to move WordPress to new host.<\/p>\n

WordPress developers move websites using different methods. If you have access to both servers, old and the new then manually migrating WordPress is mostly used by WP developers. The steps are:<\/p>\n

  1. Create a backup of MySQL database using PHPMyAdmin on your old host or development server and download it.<\/li>\n
  2. Create a new MySQL database on new host \/ server.<\/li>\n
  3. Install WordPress on new host with default theme.<\/li>\n
  4. Go to PhpMyAdmin on new host and DROP all tables while leaving the database.<\/li>\n
  5. Now click IMPORT button in PHPMyAdmin and select database file that you downloaded in step (1). Click OK button.<\/li>\n
  6. The above step will import database that is used on old host or development server.<\/li>\n
  7. Download wp-content folder that is located under www or public_html depending your hosting server configuration. This step needs to be done on your old host or development server. You can compress wp-content and download it or use FTP tool to download this.<\/li>\n
  8. Upload wp-content folder that you downloaded in step (7) to your new host root directory. i.e. www or public_html etc. You will be prompted to Replace or Skip because there is already a folder with similar name. Click REPLACE.<\/li>\n
  9. Last step is to use Widget Importer plugin that will import all widget settings to the new website.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
